Throws Awards 2015

All the results from Livingston (scroll down page on left)

There was a great weekend’s action at the final GP Throws and Jumps meeting at Craigswood, Livingston, over the weekend.

Stars of the show this weekend have got to be the more senior members of the Throws community: Bill Gentlemen setting a British Over 70s Masters record in the Hammer with a PB throw of 41.59m. Not to be outdone, Jim Hogg also set a British Masters Over 65 record in the Shot with a PB throw of 15.44.

Highlight of the Jumps was a big PB for U20 athlete David Lambie (Giffnock North) with a high jump of 1.97m

Special Awards were made for outstanding performances. Vouchers were awarded to athletes throughout all age groups from U15  upwards where, three or more competitors, competed at three or more meetings. U13 Winners received medals.

The GP Throws Series (incorporating Hammerama)will return as four one-day meets next year, with the Jumps probably returning as a stand alone event on a midweek evening format.

All at scottishathletics would like to thank the Officials and Volunteers who helped make the series possible. Thanks, also, to the athletes and coaches who supported the events , with the Throws GP now firmly established.

School Games Results

Scotland had a team at the Sainsbury’s School Games in Manchester last week and the young athletes performed with real credit on Friday.

There were a clutch of medals across various events as well as PBs and good performances, with our Para athletes very much to the fore as 18 medals were gathered in total.

Hammer thrower Emma Rae also came up with a Scottish U17 record with 56.22m as she finished just outside the medals in fourth.

Golds arrived via Erin Wallace in the 1500m and Kate Gallagher in the 3000m, while there were silvers for Jamie MacKinnon in the 3000m steeplechase, Cameron Steven in the 800m, Andrew Peck in the discus and Drew McIntyre in the 100m.

The Scottish bronze medallists in able-bodied events were Alessandro Schenini in long jump, Craig Moriarty in pole vault, Lewis Brown at 400m and Adam Boyle in javelin.

The 4 x 100m team took bronze thanks to the efforts of Drew McIntyre, Greg Kelly, Taylor Roy and John Maclennan and the 4 x 400m team matched that achievement via the runs of Lewis Brown, Declan Gall, Cameron Steven and Alessandro Schenini.

In the Para events, where there was a points system for some races, golds went to Maria Lyle at ambulant 100m and ambulant 200m; Sammi Kinghorn in wheelchair 800m; Shelby Watson in wheelchair 100m. There were bronzes for Luke Deighan in wheelchair 800m and Ross Paterson in the ambulant 400m.

To round off the event, Kyle Brotherton (4th in 100m wheelchair) was selected as winner of the ‘Spirit of the Games’ Award. Kyle won the award for lending his racing wheels to a fellow competitor who had puncture problems before entering the call room and had no spare tyre so would have been unable to race. This athlete then won bronze in the girls wheelchair 800m.

Many congratulations to the capital club on success in the Lower Age Group final at the Alexander Stadium following their success in the Scottish final.

A Team Edinburgh select competed in the Upper Age Group final the following day and finished fourth.

Unfortunately we don’t have further info on this at the moment but details of the overall points and indeed event results should appear online in due course. There is a little more detail, also, in this Athletics Weekly round-up.
