Falkland Trail Runners and Dalbeattie Running Club are affiliated
Two recently-formed athletics clubs have been successful in affiliation applications to scottishathletics.
Agreement at a board meeting in Edinburgh earlier this month confirmed affiliated status for Newburgh Dunes Running Club and the Three Witches Running Club (a military-based club centred in Dundee).
Both clubs are young, having been started within the past two years, and are felt to have met a series of requirements set by scottishathletics. The acceptance of Newburgh Dunes and Three Witches takes the number of affiliated athletics clubs in Scotland with the governing body to 145 clubs.
Newburgh Dunes Running Club in Aberdeenshire will welcome athletes of all abilities and from all backgrounds, with their main focus being on trail running in their local area.
The club began back in March 2014 and there is already an informal link with jogscotland Newburgh. The first focus will be to recruit senior members, with a possible junior section to follow in due course.
The Three Witches Running Club is essentially for military personnel operating out of three venues – Dundee, Hamilton and Birmingham – using PT instructors as ‘coaches’, with agreed coach education to follow. The TWRC list their areas of interest as track, cross country, road running, hill running and ultras.
All at scottishathletics would like to welcome these new clubs ‘on board’ and look forward to seeing further involvement in regular training provision, competition at various levels and coach education.
It is not so very long ago that Chirnside Chasers were brought into the fold as a fully-fledged athletics club (after having their roots in jogscotland) and notice they are making an impact on Age Group competitions with athletes at the U17s last weekend (see picture below).
