Scottish 10k Champs

Stirling is centre-stage for the endurance community this weekend with the Scottish 10K champs in the spotlight.

Sunday’s race already has a good reputation for affording fast times with the flat course conducive to PBs.

Central AC athletes are often never far from the podium on these occasions and those in yellow will be among the favourites again for the 2014 medals.

Alastair Hay, Andrew Butchart and John Newsom head their challenge with the latter having raced in the Great North Run half marathon last Sunday.

Corstorphine athlete Mike Crawley is another with good recent form behind him – after a good run in Ireland at the Frank Duffy 10-mile race in Dublin.

And other contenders might include the likes of Dale Colley, Robert Gilroy, Ben Hukins, Kyle Greig and Paul Sorrie. Ronhill Cambuslang’s Josh Lilly was last year’s winner in a time of 30.30.

Central dominated the Women’s Race in 2013 and although champion, Fiona Thompson, is unable to defend her title this time around, the club are well represented by Jennifer Emsley and Lyndsey Morrison among the favourites. Morag MacLarty was a late entrant and will be another expected to do well, too.

Fife’s challenge could be led by Megan Crawford with other contenders likely to include Katie Bristow, Jenny Bannerman, Gemma Cormack and Shona McIntosh.

There’s £4000 worth of prize-money for the overall positions for individuals with two events remaining after Sunday’s race – the Scottish Marathon Champs at Loch Ness and the Scottish Half Marathon Champs at the Great Scottish Run.
