‘Sub 2 Sharp’ makes her mark

Lynsey Sharp made a clear statement of intent last night with her first ever sub-2 minute run at the Diamond League 800m in Lausanne.

Despite taking up a wide position on the outside of the pack, Lynsey made the most of a fast race to cross the line in 1:59.67 – a well-timed PB ahead of a summer which includes the Glasgow Grand Prix, Commonwealth Games and a defence of her European title, in quick succession.

After the race she said she was proud of the run, but still seeing room for improvement in her race tactics.

She told British Athletics: “The whole race I was running wide, it was quite bunched, and I wasn’t sure whether they might be going to die on the second lap so I just stayed out of trouble – which I need to stop doing, probably.

“I’ve been looking forward to the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix for so long, it’s a really key date in the diary for Glasgow, so I can’t wait to get out there.

“It’s gone from me quite easily having no season at all to being a really busy season and I just can’t wait to continue.”
