scottishathletics Hammerama Grand Prix
Saturday 12 April 2014
Xcite West Lothian Leisure, Craigswood, Livingston.
The first of the scottishathletics 2014 Hammerama Grand Prix meetings got off to a flyer in many ways.
With athletes throwing into a strong easterly wind, this would prove a challenge and one that they seemed to relish.
Rachel Hunter (Ayr Seaforth) went beyond the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games standard for the second time with a throw of 62.22m. Hard on her heels was Kimberley Reed (Edinburgh AC) with a PB of 60.88m and Myra Perkins (Falkirk Victoria Harriers) with 59.83m.
Encouraging was the number of young athletes throwing in their first competition. This is one of strong points of Hammerama, giving access for those who want to compete at all ages.
Excellent throws from both female and male throwers in all age groups with 21 athletes achieving a PB. This can only bode well for the future.
Appreciations:
To all the officials and scottishathletics for their support; Howard Perkins for compiling our results and distributing to UKA Power of 10, Athletics weekly and scottishathletics; Sarah Perkins for assisting with admin and catering for the officials; Neil Boyle and the staff of Excite.
All the results are on the Hammerama Grand Prix event page.
Next Hammerama is Saturday 10 May 2014 at Xcite, Sports Stadium Craigswood, Livingston, West Lothian.
