The Commonwealth Games isn’t the only major event taking place over the coming days – with the World Juniors due in the United States.
Scottish duo Kimberley Reed and Shaun Wyllie are with the Team GB and NI party for the championships in Eugene from July 22-27.
Edinburgh AC thrower Kimberley competes in the hammer, after coming so close to Team Scotland selection for Hampden, while Bracknell AC’s Shaun is in the 1500m (after he also reached the Commonwealth Games standard on one occasion).
‘It is a great opportunity for these two athletes and we wish them well for the World Juniors in the States,’ said Stephen Maguire, director of coaching.
‘Shaun was at the European U20 Champs last summer and reached the final there so it is good to see him continuing to make progress.
‘Kimberley achieved the qualifying standard for the Commonwealth Games as well as for the World Juniors. I am sure she will benefit from competing at this kind of global event.’
Good luck to Kimberley and Shaun from all at scottishathletics. British Athletics will follow the progress of Team GB and NI in Eugene and we will seek to have updates on scottishathletics Twitter and Facebook.
