Scotland vests at Milton Keynes

Four athletes have been selected to represent Scotland at the British Cross Challenge event in Milton Keynes.

The races on Saturday 7 February are the third in the series and, under the terms of the scottishathletics Road Running and Cross Country Selection Policy on this website, there was a selection opportunity on offer.

This applied to the U20 and Senior age-groups and, as noted in the policy, consideration will be given to those athletes who are targeting places with GB at the World Cross Country Champs in China.

Andrew Butchart (Central AC), Jonny Glen (Inverclyde AC), Euan Gillham (Kilbarchan AAC) and Catriona Graves (Garscube Harriers) will now be supported for the fixture by scottishathletics.

Butchart of course is in the Senior men’s race, after finishing second at Liverpool to Callum Hawkins. Gillham and Glen are in the Junior Men’s race – with both having worn GB vests at the Great Edinburgh XC event. Graves is in the Junior Women’s race.

The final of the British Cross Challenge Series is in Birmingham on Saturday 7 March when Scots will be involved in the Inter-Counties races.

Athletes who race in two of the three events – in Liverpool, Cardiff and Milton Keynes – are automatically entered for the final event at Brimingham.

Ahead of Milton Keynes, and after two races so far, there are a handful of young Scots very well-placed in the British Cross Challenge with U13 age groups led by Hamish Armitt (Giffnock North) and Leona M urray (Kilbarchan AAC). Hard on the heels of Leona in the U13 age group , in second and third, are Kate Richardson (Giffnock) and Emma Frew (Ayr Seaforth).

In the U15 girls, Erin Wallace (Giffnock North) is third.
