Out in front: Morag MacLarty shares women’s top place while Tewolde Mengisteab is clear leader

Tewolde Mengisteab has a firm grip on first place in the scottishathletics Road Race Grand Prix after three of the five events.

But it is tight at the top in the women’s table with four athletes covereved by only six points and the leadership currently shared by Lisa Finlay of Dumfries Running Club and Central AC’s Morag MacLarty.

The tables have been updated following the Scottish 10k Champs at Stirling which was the third event. These are now available online on the dedicated page for Grand Prix events.

Mengisteab finished second in Stirling to Andrew Butchart and the Shettleston Harriers runner is now on 93 points.

There is a tie for second at the moment and it is split between two athletes from Ronhill Cambuslang with Robert Gilroy and Stuart Gibson both on 55 points. Lachlan Oates of Shettleston is fourth on 51 and Central AC’s Butchart is fifth on 35 after racing only one event.

Shettleston have three athletes in the top 10 in total with Ronhill Cambuslang having four to firmly emphasise the road running strength of the two Glasgow clubs.

There is a wider geographical spread in the women’s table with the top places very keenly contested.

Finlay and MacLarty currently have 52 points with Shona McIntosh of Hunters Bot Trotters on 48 points, Central’s Jennifer Emsley on 46 and Shettleston’s Jessica Oliver-Bell on 43 to complete the top five women.

Central have three in the top ten with Lyndsey Morrison in 10th but there are seven clubs featured with Edinburgh AC, Inverness Harriers and Fife all represented as well as those previously mentioned.
