Entry forms for Forres

The scottishathletics Masters XC Champs will be held at the end of January and we’re looking for entries over the next week.

Kilmarnock was the venue for a great event back almost 12 months ago and this time the medals will be contested at Grant Park in Forres on Saturday 30 January.

That means the time is right for Masters athletes and clubs to be getting their entries in – with those being taken by post by Alex Jackson.  The closing date for entries is Saturday 16 January.

All the details for the event, including the postal address for those entries is on the specific page on our Events section.

Masters XC championships are held in five-year age categories for athletes aged 40 or over on the day of the race (30 January 2016). The M40, M45, M50, M55 and M60 compete over 8K with all women and M65, M70 etc racing over 6K.

Spikes on track

There’s an opportunity coming up to work in athletics on a part-time basis at Fraserburgh Running Club.

Working in partnership with scottishathletics and sportscotland, Fraserburgh Running Club are seeking to recruit a Club Together Officer.Club Together is a fundamental project within Scotland’s National Club Development programme for athletics, that places a key focus on supporting the development of athletics clubs in the country.

The role will have a significant impact in the growth and development of the club and the twin aspects of our vision of increasing participation and performance which sit at the heart of everything we do. Neither, however, is possible without athletics clubs playing their part.

This part time post (12 hours per week) is funded through a partnership between Fraserburgh Running Club, scottishathletics and sportscotland. Club Together is exactly that – clubs and scottishathletics coming together to deliver once and for all a programme that will make the athletics vision happen in Fraserburgh.

Find out more about the position in Fraserburgh via our Jobs in Athletics page.

Closing date for applications: 12 noon on Friday 29 January 2016

Eilish McColgan

Eilish McColgan

Eilish McColgan has laid down her 2016 goals in her latest blog with sponsors Lindsays.

The Scottish steeplechase record-holder has Olympic ambitions but reaching Rio will be tough following an injury-hit 2015.

Writes Eilish: ‘The New Year often brings change. For some, it may be a fresh start or the opportunity to set a new goal for the forthcoming 365 days. For me, it really is a fresh start. After spending 2015 injured, 2016 seems like a new chapter. My goal always remains the same – to improve.

‘Due to the nature of my injury I’m still struggling to get a full week of training under my belt. The good news is that I’m now running around 30 miles a week. The bad news is that it’s not pain free.

‘Running isn’t easy, even when your muscles feel good, so you can imagine how difficult it becomes when things hurt. According to my latest scan the bone in my ankle has now fully healed but for some reason I have recurring pain in the same area. However, the pain is manageable and that’s exactly what I’m doing – managing it. My daily routine includes a lot of stretching, self-massage and icing in order to try and keep the pain at a minimum and to reduce any inflammation that flares up from exercising on it.’
