There are two new scottishathletics Foundation Courses coming up in April and October.
In partnership with the world-renowned coach Kelvin Giles (Movement Dynamics), scottishathletics are pleased to announce the introduction of the new Foundation Course.
This coach development opportunity is specifically design to help newly qualified coaches (Coach Assistant and/or Athletics Coach Award) to develop their skills in delivering warm ups and in-session planning in the club environment.
This new programme is integral to the National Coach Development Programme for scottishathletics, which targets the athletic development of the athlete, in addressing the athletes’ physical and technical competencies. This Foundation Course will take place over two days, and will consist of both theory and practical workshops.
The cost of the course will be £30 for scottishathletics coach members (£50 for non-members). The courses are on April 11 and 12 and October 24 and 25. The April venue will be Heriot Watt, near Edinburgh.
To book yourself on the course, please email Mary Anderson at mary.anderson@scottishathletics.org.uk

This year’s Inverness Half Marathon looks like being one of the biggest and most competitive in the 31 year history of the event, but anyone wishing to join the action has only until midnight on Tuesday 17 February to sign up.
Many of Scotland’s best road runners will join the large numbers of participants of all ages and abilities who have already registered for the race, which takes place on Sunday 8 March, but a late surge is expected before the deadline is reached. Hundreds more will take part in the accompanying 5k fun run which is open to people of all ages and abilities, including wheelchair entrants and children accompanied by adults.
Men’s title-holder Robbie Simpson (Deeside Runners) is unable to compete this year because he’ll be in Austria at the time, but the five men who finished immediately behind him in 2014, are all planning to return.
North cross country champion John Newsom (Inverness Harriers), who was runner-up last year, will be joined once again on the starting line by 2011 winner Andrew Douglas (Inverclyde AC), Gordon Lennox (Forres Harriers), Graham Bee (Inverness Harriers) and George French (Garioch Road Runners).
Ireland international Nicola Duncan (Portobello Running Club), who last year was just six seconds outside the women’s course record of 1.13.21 set by Kenya’s Cathy Mutwa in 2007, has been struggling to overcome injuries and may not defend her title.
Jennifer Wetton (Central AC), who was third last year then went on to win the Scottish marathon title in September’s Baxter Loch Ness race, has entered along with Megan Crawford (Fife AC), Hungarian orienteering international Fanni Gyurko and other top runners such as Shona McIntosh (Hunters Bog Trotters), Sarah Liebnitz (Inverness Harriers) and Jessica Oliver-Bell (Shettleston Harriers).
The top three men and women to finish will share a cash prize fund of £1200 with a further £1650 in sports vouchers being distributed to the leading veteran age group winners and to the leading clubs.
More information about the Inverness Half Marathon and 5K Fun Run, which takes place on Sunday 8 March, is on the event website.

Cupar 5 Confirmation of date – 28/2/2015.
There has been some confusion as to the date of the Cupar 5.
The Cupar 5 Mile Road Race will take place Saturday 28 February. The race is an accurately measured 5 miles, course certificate by Alan Young. The condition of the road has been greatly improved by Fife Council this year.
Entries taken on the day (£7 for scottishathletics members, £9 for non-members) at YMCA, Marathon House, 93 Bonnygate, Cupar.
Fife AC will be running a fast track entry lane where athletes who have registered on the club’s website can pick up their numbers by producing the appropriate entry fee. This avoids long queues and filling in forms on the day. The facility will be available on the club website from February 18.

Canadia-based Scot Sarah Inglis has been in very good form during the indoor season in North America.
And her 4.36.60 run in the Husky Classic event in Seattle over the weekend lifted the Lothian Running Club athlete to third in the all-time indoor list for Scottish women. That is a time only bettered by Yvonne Murray and Liz Lynch.
