Kerr and Stark to the fore

Josh Kerr ended his summer season with a couple of superb performances on the track in England and it wasn’t much different on the mud of Bellahouston come November.

The Edinburgh AC teenager, a recent recruit for the scottishathletics Youth Academy after British title wins at 1500m and 3000m in September, claimed the Short Course Scottish Championship over 3k in Glasgow at U17 level.

And the female champion, Kilbarchan’s Laura Stark, produced a similar performance after a strong showing in September – when she had finished fourth in a the hill running junior home international event in Ireland event.

Fife AC and Giffnock North AAC were the other two clubs celebrating national championship success for individuals as Adam Scott won the U15 Boys race with Erin Wallace peerless at U15 Girls.

Kerr won by seconds from Perth Strathtay’s Ben Greenwood and there was a fine bronze medal for Iain Davies of Central following a lot of hard work in recent years.

Stark took the U17 Girls title after over-hauling Gillian Black of Victoria Park-Glasgow in the second half of the 3k race with Ayr Seaforth’s Kirstin Oakley coming through for third place.

The U17 team medals were as follows: Boys 1 Victoria Park-Glasgow 2 Central AC 3 Dundee Hawkhill Harriers. Girls 1 Corstorphine AAC 2 Ayr Seaforth 3 Law and District AC.

Congratulations to all those medallists and, while it might be unfair to pick one team out, we know Corstorphine AAC were particularly delighted with their U17 efforts at a club more renowned for senior athletes.

Fife AC’s Scott won the U15 Boys title from his club-mate, Euan Boyle, as Jamie Burns of Shettletson Harriers took the bronze medal.

Wallace was favourite in her race and delivered once again as Eloise Walker of Edinburgh AC came through to take silver with Central AC’s Kate Gallagher, no stranger to the podium, in third place.

The U15 team medals were as follows: Boys 1 Fife 2 Giffnock North 3 Kilbarchan. Girls 1 Giffnock North 2 Central AC 3 Lasswade.

Again, with apologies for highlighting one club, Lasswade were probably the ‘surprise’ medallists in this age group and well done to them and all the other athletes, coaches and parents involved.

There were Vets medals in three categories this year for V40, V50 and V60.

Congratulations to those who made the podium and all those who took part at Bellahouston.
