There will be a physical legacy from the Commonwealth Games with the tracks from Hampden and Lesser Hampden being relocated at two Scottish venues.
Grangemouth and Crownpoint will benefit from upgraded track surfaces when the surfaces from the Glasgow 2014 venue and training track are moved.
Local authorities Glasgow City Council (Crownpoint) and Falkirk Council/Falkirk Community Trust (Grangemouth) are working in partnership with sportscotland on the project.
Athletics equipment used at the Games has also been made available for free and it is understood 22 Scottish clubs will benefit from that scheme.
Stewart Harris, Chief Executive of sportscotland, said: ‘We are delighted to have identified two sites to receive the tracks from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and will continue to work with our partners to manage this process.
‘sportscotland is already delivering a lasting sporting legacy from the Games, through our Community Sport Hubs and facility investment, and this is another component of that plan.
‘For club runners to have the opportunity to run on the very track which world-class athletes like Eilidh Child, Usain Bolt and David Rudisha competed on during the Games is absolutely fantastic and will help to inspire the next generation of champions.’
