GB call-ups for Loughborough and Halle

Tuesday 17th May 2016

National Academy trio Cameron Tindle, Kelsey Stewart and Anna Gordon have been named by British Athletics to compete for GB and NI at the Loughborough International

The three athletes, all of whom had been selected by Scotland, will now ‘move over’ to the GB Juniors team for Sunday’s event at the Paula Radcliffe stadium.

It is exciting for all three and in particular for young pole vaulter Gordon – as she lands her first British vest at the age of 19 after setting a Scottish U20 record during the indoor season.

Berwick-based Tindle, who wnet to the World Juniors in Colombia last summer, is selected for both the 200m and the 4 x 100m squad.

Stewart was selected for Loughborough and the European Juniors last year at 4 x 400m and will hope this time to be handed a starting slot in the quartet for the Loughborough International.

There are 51 athletes selected in all and arguably Scotland would have had greater representation but for George Evans being picked for Germany (see below) and Josh Kerr currently being in America.

Full details on the GB and NI Juniors team for Loughborough International are within the British Athletics website announcement.

Jo Summers, British Athletics Development Manager and Team Leader for the GB Junior Team in 2016 said:

‘With the World Junior Championships set for July this year, the Loughborough International provides the GB & NI Junior team with a great opportunity for athletes to gain high level competition experience.

‘I congratulate those receiving Great Britain and Northern Ireland selection for the first time and indeed their personal coaches, too.

‘We have a good blend of newcomers and experienced juniors within the team and look forward to working with all them all at this important meeting in the junior calendar.

George Evans – GB selection for Germany

Scottish throwers Mark Dry and George Evans have been selected by British Athletics for an event coming up in Halle this weekend.

Dry leads the GB Senior Men’s hammer selection for the trip to Germany, with Evans in the discus for the Junior Men’s team.

Mark claimed the Scottish National record with 76.93m last May, which saw him move to fifth on the UK all-time list and qualify for the British team at the World Championships in the Birds Nest Stadium.

George burst on the international scene at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali last year. The Scottish athlete was one of three medallists in Colombia, winning bronze in the boys discus throw.

It was a coming of age for the 18 year-old who holds a personal best of 57.21m in the discus and he also medalled at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Many congratulations to both Scots, their families and coaches and the clubs involved in their development over the years.
