Start lists are now available on the event page for the Jumps and Throws Grand Prix at Craigswood Sports Centre in Livingston this weekend. The two-day contest marks the start of a series of four Grand Prix events through the summer season, with the final due in September. This new format for a field events Grand Prix series will now incorporate Hammerama, and as well as the throws events of hammer, discus, shot and javelin, includes both high jump and long jump events.
Entries in the throws section have been particularly strong this year – among those to watch are Youth Academy member George Evans (Inverness Harriers), who set a new over-16 schools shot putt record at the Scottish Schools Indoors in February, who will compete in both shot and discus. Andrew Murphy (Kilbarchan), recent winner of the senior men’s Heptathlon at the 2015 Indoor Combined Events Championships, will take on javelin and discus, while Emma Rae (Pitreavie), the Scottish U15 girls record holder in the hammer throw, will also take to the field.
We’re pleased to be piloting the inclusion of jumps in the Grand Prix for the first time this year. Among the strong prospects on the day will be high jumper Jack Lochans (Kilbarchan), after his 2.05 clearance at this year’s National Open – which was itself short of his PB of 2.11, gained at the Indoor League finals in 2014.
A special appearance – off the field for a change – will be made by Glasgow 2014 Team Scotland member Chris Bennett, who will be the event announcer.
