Clubs land cash support

Three Scottish athletics clubs have received grants as part of the Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities Award.

Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers, Perth Strathtay Harriers and East Kilbride AC all benefited following applications submitted.

It is good news for those clubs involved with Cambuslang and Perth each to receive £2000 while East Kilbride will land £850 towards specific equipment requested via the Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities Award.

And the good news does not end there with four other projects across Scotland vowing to use money granted to help develop athletics with those beneficiaries including Auchinleck Academy in Ayrshire, Cadder Primary School in Bishopbriggs near Glasgow, the Glasgow Association for Mental Health Ltd and Gryffe High School in Renfrew.

Ronhill Cambuslang told us: ‘We are pleased to announce the receipt of a £2000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund 2014 Communities Award. The club will use this funding to run cross country events for schools, including a coaching programme and taster sessions.

‘It will also go towards publicising the club with the intent being to increase the number of people taking part in running.’

The Big Lottery fund have confirmed to us that the Communities Award closed at the end of august. However, their ‘Awards for All’ section may well be applicable for athletics clubs and groups and remains open for applications.
