Inverclyde AC’s Craig Ruddy claimed the Scottish 10K title with a solid run in fine conditions at the Stirling 10k on Sunday.
Host club Central AC picked up the men’s team golds once again but it was Edinburgh AC on top of the podium in the Women’s team race for 2015.
Irish athlete Fionnuala Ross won the Women’s race with 34.50 her winning time but the Scottish title went to Shona McIntosh of Hunters Bog Trotter, second woman home on the day but the first eligible for scottishathletics medal.
Ruddy took the win from Tewolde Mengisteab of Shettleston Harriers with those two having similarly contested the Tom Scott 10-Miler at Strathclyde Park back in April.
It was a tight finish on that occasion and on Sunday the winning margin was 12 seconds with Central AC’s Alastair Hay taking home a bronze medal with 30.48.
Ross was followed home by McIntosh with the latter clocking 35.19 to take the Scottish 10k gold from Central AC’s Fanni Gyurko, as Mhairi Duff of Dumfries RC took the bronze medal.
Central AC’s strength in depth in the Men’s race was confirmed by those team golds on a day when they had five finishers in the top 14.
Shettleston Harriers, with three in the top 15, took the silvers as Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers took home bronze medals with the points 21 for Central, 24 for Shettleston and 42 for Cambuslang. Central were represented by Hay, Alex Hendry and Conan McCaughey.
Edinburgh won that Women’s team title with 28 points thanks to the efforts of sisters Laura Dunn and Rachael Dunn and new recruit Lauren Wilson. Central AC‘s women took the silvers and Fife AC were placed third.
Many thanks to Central AC as host club and all involved in putting on the Stirling 10k once again with the 1000-limit for entries having been reached late last week before the closing date.
Kerry Liam Wilson of Cambuslang and Sharon Muir of Inverclyde took the Masters titles.
*Craig Ruddy’s gold-medal run was a Men’s B standard in the Road Running Grand Prix for 2015.
