The scottishathletics and jogscotland Annual Awards take place at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Saturday evening – with Steve Cram our ‘Guest of Honour’.

And we’re delighted to confirm that the event is now sold out with around 330 guests expected for what should be a really special night with the middle distance legend and BBC athletics commentator Cram the headline act as our main speaker.

Steve will be joined on stage by his partner, Allison Curbishley, who won a silver medal for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 – as we gather to honour the ‘Scottish Athlete of the Year’ as well as present other awards.

Completing our great line-up, host for the evening on Saturday 31 October will be Bryan Burnett, the BBC Scotland presenter and running enthusiast.

It is the night when we name the Scottish Athlete of the Year in the Senior category – as well as three age-group categories. The Para Athlete of the Year award this year has been postponed for the time being because of the IPC World Champs in Doha.

Director of coaching Rodger Harkins has already revealed that picking short-lists for the Athlete of the Year awards was one of the hardest ‘selection’ tasks he has faced in more than two decades in the sport.

Contesting the main title on Saturday evening are Eilidh Child, Laura Muir, Lynsey Sharp and Robbie Simpson. We will be announcing the winner on our social media late on Saturday evening.

‘I’ve been involved in the sport for a number of years and while this was the first time I’ve had a say in ‘Athlete of the Year’ I have experience of sitting on selection panels many times,’ said Rodger. ‘As I say, this one was really tough!

‘That’s down to the quality of performances by Scottish athletes at various levels across the disciplines and in various age group bands. I suspect we may have quite a few athletes disappointed not to make short-lists but, again, I think that reflects on the quality overall.

‘We started out with a dozen contenders for the main award, for example. That’s a dozen Scots who at Senior level had made a significant impact on the sport at British, European and World level over the past year.’

We will also be announcing award winners among our Clubs, Officials and Volunteers as well as three Coach of the Year categories.
