The Emirates Arena has been restored from Davis Cup amphitheatre to athletics venue once again and hopefully will be the place to be for PBs at the Scottish Combined Events Champs this weekend.
There are also Senior and U20 Relays taking place as clubs contest 4 x 200m races on Saturday within the programme for the various CE age groups.
All the information on start-list and the timetable for action on both Saturday and Sunday is now online on our Events page.
Kilbarchan’s Andrew Murphy takes on the Senior heptahlon and there is also a V35 event taking place featuring the likes of Ken Moncrieff (Falkirk Vics), Ron Todd (Central AC) and Ian Paget (Shettleston Harriers).
In the lower age group classification, some of Scotland’s best young Combined Event athletes will do battle – with each other and one or two visiting athletes from England.
Tom Chandler (Central) and Euan Urquhart (VP-Glasgow) are on the list at U20, while the U17 competitors should feature Scott Connal (Whitemoss AAC) and Andrew and Daniel McFarlane (Inverness Harriers).
Arbroath’s Joel McFarlane is on the list for U15 and it is good to see 17 names entered at U13 level including athletes from, among others, Giffnock North, Livingston, Ayr Seaforth, Lasswade, Dunfermline, Pitreavie and Edinburgh AC.
Emma Canning – in GB action in France
In the women’s start-lists, it is good to see 80 young athletes entered – is that the Katarina Johnson-Thompson/Jess Ennis effect taking root?
Emma Canning recently won a GB vest and ended up sharing a room with Morgan Lake in France. Emma is in action at U20 this weekend and faces competition from England and Ireland as well as athletes from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Banchory Stonehaven.
Fellow Whitemoss athletes, Holly McArthur, looks favourite in the U17 age-group and there are 23 names on the list for the U13 competition.
And there are 28 at U15 level including Falkirk Vics athlete, Olivia Vareille, who medalled at 800m recently at the England Athletics Age Group champs.
