Spikes on track

There’s an opportunity to work in athletics on a part-time basis for someone in the Fraserburgh area.

Fraserburgh Running Club are looking for a Club Together officer and are applications and details on the post and how to apply are online on this website.

The role will have a significant impact in the growth and development of the club and the twin aspects of our vision of increasing participation and performance sit at the heart of evetyhing we do – neither however is possible without athletics clubs playing their full part.

This part-time post is funded through a partnership between Fraserburgh Running Club and scottishathletics. Club Together is exactly that – clubs, scottishathletics and others working together to deliver a programme that will make the athletics vision happen.

Applications are open until March 23.

Giffnock North AAC enjoyed a very successful visit from scottishathletics Coach Mentor for Endurance, Robert Hawkins, last Friday night.

Around 70 athletes, coaches and parents were in attendance to hear from Robert on the recent athletics journey for both Derek and Callum on an evening which celebrated many aspects of distance running.

The first part of the session covered Derek’s move into marathon which led to him being the best British finisher at the Commonwealth Games. Later there was then the chance to hear about Callum’s qaulifcation for Glasgow 2014 in the 10,000m and a Hampden appearance.

There’s more detail on the Giffnock club website.

Remember, clubs, you can book visits by our team of Event Coach Mentors FREE. Simply email Mary Anderson on mary.anderson@scottishathletics.org.uk

Mull winner – Molly Reade (centre)

Mull Athletic Club have been promoting the sport on the island for just over 10 years – and now they have a National champion at Age Group level.

High jumper Molly Reade picked up gold in the U15s at the Emirates Arena on Sunday with a PB leap of 1.55.

Molly, who only turned 14 last October, is top ranked in her age-group in Scotland and in the top 10 in Britain. The club in Mull meet regularly at Tobermory High School and seek to cover a number of disciplines as their website shows.

Well done to all our clubs in the less densely-populated areas of Scotland who seek to build the sport despite obvious issues on facilities and yet often make the effort to travel to competitions.
