Team Scotland’s Joasia Zakrzewski is heading for the World Trophy 50K race later this week.
The Dumfries doctor, who represented Scotland in the marathon at Glasgow 2014, is due to compete on Friday in Doha.
It is a huge challenge for Zakrzewski with conditions expected to be tough and she has been in touch with Liz McColgan-Nuttall, who is now living in Qatar, for advice on preparation.
And there’s no let-up for Joasia as the winter progresses with the World 100K Champs coming up later in November, as well, with that meaning a return trip to Doha.
‘I am flying the flag for Scotland at the World 50K again out in Doha and looking forward to the race,’ said Joasia, who was due to leave Scotland after finishing work in Dumfries on Tuesday.
‘I’ve tried to be as prepared as possible in terms of what racing there will be like over that distance, what clothing is suitable and so on. Liz has been very helpful and advised it is liable to be around 86 degrees at the time we are running!
‘I am seeded around No 12 in the field and in many ways it will be a good race to help me for the World 100k Champs in three weeks which are also out there.’
