Scotland’s representation at the European Championships with Team GB and NI has unfortunately been cut from the initially selected seven athletes to five.
Jax Thoirs has had to join Jake Wightman in withdrawing from the party which will travel to Zurich.
Lynsey Sharp will defend her 800m title and the Commonwealth silver medallist will be joined in Switzerland by Eilidh Child (400m Hurdles), Beth Potter (10,000m), Chris O’Hare (1500m) and Laura Muir (1500m).
Wightman had been recovering from a hamstring injury just prior to Glasgow 2014 but it flared again during his heat at Hampden on August 1.
Jax, of course, came desperately close to a medal in the pole vault before the Glaswegian finished fourth in front of a home crowd in his own city.
But a training injury over the past few days has sadly cost him his first senior GB international appearance at the Euros.
‘I am gutted to miss out – the timing really is awful,’ Jax told the Herald.
The Zurich event runs from Tuesday, 12 August, to next Sunday with hopefully final places to come for the Scottish quintet.
Schedules are available on the European Athletics website while there is BBC coverage at various points over the course of the week.
