Athlete of the Year short-lists
The countdown is on for the eagerly-awaited scottishathletics and jogscotland Annual Awards Dinner in Glasgow on Saturday night.
GB Olympian Derek Redmond will be Guest of Honour at the Hilton Hotel and it promises to be an exciting celebration of a remarkable year.
Olympians and Paralympians will be recognised for their Rio achievements but it is also a chance to acknowledge top ‘performances’ by our Clubs, Coaches, Volunteers and Officials.
‘What a remarkable year it has been for our sport,’ said chief executive, Mark Munro, in our special video interview preview.
‘We’ve 15 Olympians and six Paralympians and athletes performing to a very high level on the biggest stages in athletics. It has been phenomenal and that is a testament to those athletes and coaches.

‘We see Saturday night as a celebration of that, definitely, and we’ve over 400 folk coming along for certainly the largest Awards Dinner I can recall.
‘First and foremost it is a celebration of the whole sport, not just ‘Athlete of the Year’. We’ve a number of categories so we can acknowledge clubs, coaches, officials and volunteers as well as the jogscotland awards, too.’
And we’re are pleased to confirm we have agreed a Media Partnership with The Herald around the event.
The paper has already increased coverage on athletics over the past couple of months and this weekend there will be significant focus on the Awards Dinner – on Saturday and Monday in the Herald, in the Sunday Herald on Sunday and also online.
‘I think profile is key for athletics and we are delighted with the Herald joining us as Media Partners for the Awards Dinner,’ said Mark.
‘Coverage is probably at a 20-year peak at the moment and that kind of exposure for our role models definitely helps inspire others.’
