District XC Relays set off Short Course Challenge

West District XC Relay Results – Provisional

Cross country is with us once again and three events in the District XC Relays this weekend mark the start of the scottishathletics season.

Livingston, Kilmacolm and Edderton play host to the East, West and North events on Saturday and we’re delighted to note significant increases in the number of teams entered at all three venues.

Many clubs use the District XC Relays as a selection ‘trial’ for the National XC Relays at Cumbernauld in a fortnight and that will doubtless add to the keen competitive edge this Saturday.

The closing date for the National XC Relays on Saturday 22 October is next Monday – and we’re looking for clubs to send in forms by post or by email to events@scottishathletics.org.uk (by 1pm on Monday).

District XC Relay medals are up for grabs for teams this Saturday in four races – the Young Males, Young Females, Junior/Senior Males and Junior/Senior Females. U20 athletes, Seniors and Masters all race in the Junior/Senior races.

As well as the medals, at Senior level there are also points on offer for clubs in the first part of the scottishathletics Short Course Challenge – where the winning clubs (in Men and Women) each land £250 following three events between now and Christmas.

The scoring system is as follows:

District CC Relays 1st (10 points) reducing by 1 to 10th (1 point)
National CC Relays 1st (20 points) reducing by 1 to 20th (1 point)
National 4K Champs 1st (20 points) reducing by 1 to 20th (1 point)

After each stage of the competition, clubs will be ranked based on their team placing, culminating in final Challenge standings after the Scottish 4k Cross Country Championships.

In the event of a tie for first place the positions in the 4k Championship will determine the final standings.

Second, third, etc teams will be eligible for the Challenge. In the 4K championships they will only be calculated for the purposes of the Challenge, but not for the Championships themselves.
