‘It is an exciting time for the sport’ – Mark Munro, Interim CEO
Mark Munro has underlined why he believes club development must remain the cornerstone for athletics in Scotland to grow and flourish.
Our Head of Development has taken over as Interim Chief Executive officer this midweek, as we seek to maintain momentum and continuity following the departure of Nigel Holl to a new job with UK Athletics.
All at scottishathletics would like to wish Nigel all the very best in his role as ‘Head of Strategy and Partnerships’ with the governing body of the sport in Britain. Nigel has led scottishathletics from the CEO position for the past six years.
Now Munro, 38, steps into the job on an interim basis with a firm desire to continue recent progress at various levels in what is already looking like a very exciting Olympic and Paralympic year.
‘First of all, I’d like to thank Ian Beattie as Chair and the Board for backing me in the interim Chief Executive Officer role,’ said Mark, who will continue to oversee Development within his Interim CEO remit.
‘It’s a great privilege and I look forward to working with, and supporting, the Board, the commissions, the athletics community and the staff over the months ahead.
‘I would also like to thank Nigel for his support over the past five years and wish him the best of luck in his new role with UK Athletics.
‘I think it is a very exciting time for the sport in Scotland with the European Championships, Rio Olympics and Paralympics nearly upon us, as well as host of off-track events this summer.
‘There is a high interest in potential successes by our athletes and it’s a great opportunity for the sport to capitalise on this high media interest.
‘In terms of the business and development of the sport, the direction and strategy are clear: we will continue to build on the existing work and ensure clubs sit at the heart of what we do.
‘I firmly believe we need to continue to strengthen key areas within the sport: whether that’s events, performance programmes or development projects for clubs, coaches and officials, they are all crucial to the sport moving forwards.
‘There are also a number of projects in the pipeline and we will certainly look to update you on these over the coming months.
‘Finally, I’d like to wish everyone taking part in the sport the best of luck for the remainder of the summer – with a special good luck to those athletes and their coaches representing GB and Scotland in the upcoming major events.’
Please note that Nigel Holl’s scottishathletics mobile number and email address are no longer in use.
