Noticeboard: Kilmarnock 10K; Great Club Challenge; SUCA
Sunday 24th January 2016
Kilmarnock’s ‘Roon the Toon’ 10K was launched by the Provost of East Ayrshire
Athletes of all ages and abilities gathered at Kilmarnock’s Ayrshire Athletics Arena to launch the town’s first ever 10k road race – Roon the Toon.
Roon the Toon will take place on Sunday 12 June and with just five months until the big event training will doubtless now start in earnest for first-timers and 10K regulars in the west of Scotland.
The race, which will start and finish at the Arena, will take competitors Roon the Toon, through the town centre and surrounding countryside, over a fast course which is predominately flat.
The route will be perfect for people who are looking to set a personal best or for 10k first timers.
A partnership between Kilmarnock Harriers, East Ayrshire Council and East Ayrshire Leisure, Roon the Toon will cost £15 to enter and scottishathletics members will receive a £2 discount. The prize fund will be in the region of £2000.
Ian Gebbie, Kilmarnock Harriers and event organiser said: ‘It is going to be a great event. Everyone we speak to is so enthusiastic. In addition to appealing to regular runners, we hope the team prizes for schools, businesses, sports clubs and public service organisations will also encourage lots of new people to take up the challenge.’
The race is open to anyone over 15 years of age and will start and finish at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena. Check out how to enter on EntryCentral

Great Ethiopia Run – Great Club Challenge winners have chance to run there
Scottish runners are being asked to sign-up now for the Great Edinburgh Run 10-Miler in April – and give their club the chance of an amazing prize.
The Great Club Challenge, in partnership with England Athletics and scottishathletics, has returned for a fourth year.
Affiliated running clubs are invited to sign up for the challenge which takes place across Great Run events over 2016, with the exciting prizes on offer including a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Great Ethiopian Run, Africa’s biggest road race, in November.
The Great Club Challenge takes place over seven events; the Great Edinburgh Run (17 April), the Great Birmingham 10k (1 May), the Great Bristol 10k (15 May), the Great Manchester Run (22 May), the Great Newham London Run (17th July) the Great North 10k (3 July), the Great North Run (11 September).
Any club affiliated to England Athletics or scottishathletics can take part, as long as they field a minimum of four men and four women in any given event.
The winning club will be the one with the lowest average finishing time for their first four men and four women across the finish line; they will win 15 entries for the equivalent 2017 event, £500 towards club development and entry into the prize draw for the trip to the Great Ethiopian Run.
Second place wins 10 entries for the equivalent 2017 event and third will scoop five entries for the equivalent 2017 event.
Each club winning a Great Club Challenge event is then in with the chance to win a once in a lifetime adventure; to train and race in the country that has produced some of the world’s most iconic distance running stars – Ethiopia.
The winning team will enjoy a personal meeting with the world’s greatest ever distance runner, Haile Gebrselassie, before taking part in the Great Ethiopian Run with 37,000 other runners. Last year’s winners were Tyne Bridge Harriers, from Newcastle.
Enter each event online now at www.greatrun.org and be sure to give your club name when entering.
