The East District XC Champs take centre stage this weekend as the latest fixture in the Lindsays Cross Country Season.

And there will be plenty at stake over the course at Dechmont in Livingston, close to Deans Community High School.

As well as East District titles and podium places there are also vests to be won for the Inter-District Champs at the Great Edinburgh XC event at Holyrood Park on Saturday 9 January.

There are Scotland  selections coming up for that day, too, with the District XC Champs in each region the primary consideration when picking teams for U17, U20 and U23 level to compete in the Celtic Nations XC in Edinburgh.

So all of the above will be on minds as well as the usual inter-club rivalries – not to mention all those trying to get the better of their own club-mates!

Race for Scotland at Edinburgh

We’ve been delighted once again with a huge entry for the East Districts with the names on start-lists nudging close to 1000 for another record entry for this particular event.

That is hugely encouraging for the sport with athletes, clubs, coaches and parents showing a big commitment to racing cross country over the past two or three years.

There are familiar names on those start-lists from the likes of Edinburgh AC, Central AC, Fife AC, Aberdeen AAC, Falkirk Vics, Edinburgh Uni Hares and Hounds, Corstorphine, Gala Harriers, Dundee Hawkhill Harriers and many more.

Murray Strain and Morag MacLarty picked up individual titles in Dundee last year and there was a Central AC 1-2-3 in the Senior Women’s race. The Central AC men will head to Livingston looking to make it 12 title wins in 13 years with only Corstorphine AAC, a couple of years ago, having broken that sequence.

Host club on this occasion are Lothian Running Club and scottishathletics would like to thank advance all marshals and helpers for their assistance in staging these championships. It is much appreciated.
