Aberdeen Sports Village staged Age Groups last year – and now hosts the Seniors
Aberdeen and Grangemouth will be the places to be on two of the biggest weekends on the athletics calendar come August.
And we want your support for the National Senior Championships and the Age Group Champs – with online entry open on this site.
Remember, make sure you don’t miss the closing dates – with July 29 the cut-off point for the Senior Champs and the Age Groups the following week on August 5.
We’ve had a terrific response over the past couple of years to National Championship events with clubs having proved proactive to the interest generated first by London 212 and then the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Aberdeen Sports Village hosted a highly-successful Age Group Champs in August of 2014 – just after the Hampden highs – and now it will play host to the 2015 Senior Champs on August 15 and 16.
The Hampden surface has been laid at Grangemouth with that facility benefiting from a new track and it will be the venue for the Age Group Champs on August 22 and 23.
On Saturday 22 August, the U13 and U17 athletes are centre stage at Grangemouth. The following day (Sunday 23 August), it is the turn of U15 and U20 athletes to compete for final places, PBs and medals.

Grangemouth stadium – venue for Age Group Champs
‘We’re headed to the excellent facility at Aberdeen Sports Village for the Senior Champs in August and I think that will be a real success given our experience with Age Group Champs over a couple of years,’ said scottishathletics chief executive Nigel Holl.
‘Grangemouth now of course has an up-graded track with the Mondo surface from Hampden and Lesser Hampden having been laid down there.
‘We’re taking the Age Groups to Grangemouth in 2015 and it is wonderful to think our youngsters will compete on the same track as graced by Usain Bolt, Jo Pavey and Team Scotland athletes at the Commonwealths.
‘We are hopeful of really big numbers again at National Champs in 2015 and thank you, in advance, for your continued support.
‘Grangemouth is the venue for other events in July – like the Combined Events and the Masters – and we hope those events prove suitable for those athletes.
‘It always comes back to the response from the clubs, coaches, athletes, parents and volunteers. And, once again, we stress the importance to the athletics community of our scottishathletics officials. We wish them all the best for a typically hectic summer.’
Aberdeen athlete Myles Edwards, who has represented Scotland indoors and outdoors in 2015, believes the Granite City will again provide a good venue
‘Aberdeen Sports Village is a great track facility and I am there for training about eight months of the year,’ said Myles.
‘The staff are good and I think you can feel something happening in legacy terms.
Now the Scottish Champs are coming in August and that’s excellent for the Grampian region. The attitude is right from the staff towards athletes at that venue.
‘It all helps to create the right kind of vibe and I’d love athletes and clubs from all over Scotland to come along and support the Scottish Champs at Aberdeen in numbers and make it a good occasion for the sport.’
