Good luck to our trio at World Juniors

Three Scottish athletes are with the GB and NI team in Poland for the IAAF World Junior Championships on 19-24 July.

European Junior Champion, Josh Kerr, leads the challenge in Bydgoszcz in the 1500m after a great 2016 so far. Josh won the European U20 title last summer in Sweden and was named as captain for the men’s team in Poland by British Athletics.

Thrower George Evans was also among the initial selections for the event by British Athletics as he prepares to compete in the discus. The Inverness Harriers athlete is coached by Colin McCulloch.

And sprinter Cameron Tindle, who is coached by Henry Gray and Bruce Scott, was selected to join Ryan Gorman in the 200m after a strong run in Mannheim. He was also named in the 4 x 100m team for Poland.

Many congratulations to each of these three athletes from all at scottishathletics and to their families and coaches and the clubs involved in their development.

Cameron, Josh and George are all part of the scottishathletics National Academy, which was set-up with one of the key goals being this kind of representation for our young athletes.

Edinburgh AC athlete Josh, who reached the NCAA final in America and was fourth at the British Senior Champs, is first into action on Tuesday in the 1500m heats. He is based at University of New Mexico where he is coached by Joe Franklin.

‘We have so many experienced guys and girls in this team that I am very honoured and excited to be asked to be captain,’ said Josh.

‘I had a good transition to the track over in America and hit the standard in my first race taking the pressure off a wee bit. I am ranked highly enough to think I have a chance.

‘It will be great to have as many of the team down to support others because we have a big team and we can help one another. As we all know and have seen many times success breeds success. Watching others do well makes us all strive to do even better.’
