scottishathletics will host the annual Club Leaders Conference this Saturday at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.
Over 100 Club leaders have registered for the event, which certainly looks to offer an interesting and thought-provoking day for the 42 clubs that will be represented.
‘I would like to thank everyone involved for the very positive response to our Leaders Conference,’ said Mark Munro, Head of Development.
‘We held the first event last November ahead of the Annual Dinner and felt it was well worth repeating that every 12 months. I am delighted we’ve more than 100 delegates coming along on Saturday and so many of our clubs will be represented.
‘That means there is a real chance for those clubs to ‘plug in’ to some of the support and guidance we can give them and to see and understand things that are happening elsewhere around the country. Hopefully, with quite a varied agenda, there is something for everyone on Saturday – as well as the obvious chance for people to meet and chat at the Conference and the Dinner thereafter.’
The key themes for the conference focus around clubs thinking like and developing themselves as ‘businesses’, as well as ensuring club leaders support appropriate coach and talent development within their clubs.
There will be presentations on a wide variety of topics including best practice around club management structures, employment of club staff, digital media and Gift Aid.
Three clubs (Whitemoss AAC, Livingston and District AAC and Team East Lothian) will present on club progress as well as a club case study from Welsh Athletics.
The Performance Team at scottishathletics will provide an update on coach development as well as the role of clubs in supporting and developing talent.
Mark Munro will also provide an update on new resources that have been developed to support club committees including developments to help clubs with areas such as business planning software, online training modules to support committee members, bookkeeping software and a club health-checker.
